Empowering Communities in Need
YAREN is a refugee-led, nonprofit organization founded in 2017 and based in Uganda. We empower displaced and host communities through education, healthcare, women’s economic empowerment, and youth leadership development.
Uganda hosts over 1.5 million refugees, and our work focuses on the most vulnerable communities in settlements like Nakivale, Bidibidi, Kyangwali, and urban Kampala. These refugees are from South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Burundi, Somalia, and beyond. We believe in transforming lives through skills, dignity, and opportunity—not dependency

At YAREN, we empower high-risk communities to become self-reliant through skill-building, mentorship, entrepreneurship, and public health programs. Founded by Muganuzi Mushongole Adonis, YAREN responds to the urgent needs of vulnerable populations, while creating long-term, income-generating opportunities that bring dignity and stability to refugee lives.

Programs offered by YAREN Organisation
Skill-building for Women & Youth
We provide comprehensive skill-building workshops aimed at empowering women and youth, equipping them with the tools they need to thrive and succeed in their communities. Engaging them in tailoring, entrepreneurship/business, digital literacy, and reusable product manufacturing (pads, bags, uniforms)
Clean Water Advocacy (WASH)
Our advocacy efforts focus on ensuring access to clean water and sanitation facilities, learning the effect of climate change, promoting health and well-being in refugee settlements and vulnerable communities.
Youth Mentorship & Leadership
We offer mentorship programs designed to nurture the leadership potential of young people, helping them develop skills and confidence to lead positive changes in their communities. This involves Public speaking, peacebuilding, and civic education to nurture future leaders in displaced communities.
Public health initiatives
YAREN Organisation is dedicated to implementing public health initiatives that improve health outcomes and raise awareness about health issues in marginalized populations. COVID-19 prevention, maternal health outreach, reproductive health, and trauma-informed care to improve community wellbeing.
